Swimming
I have been a swimmer since I could walk, but I did not seriously consider competitive swimming until I was in my late 40's. Thanks to some talented swimmers at the University of North Dakota who gave their time to coach a group of new members of United States Masters Swimming, some of us, Robin Paine, Jeff Thornton, and I did relatively well. The UND swimmers who coached us over the years were All-Americans Mike and Kristen Ewing, Rita Vis, Mary Beth Dunlevy, Sara Stevenson, Brad Cota, and Jeremy Organ. Former UND coach Mike Stromberg was the force behind it all. The pitcure is UND's 8-lane, 50 m pool with moveable bulkheads. I spend lunch hour there.

When I turned 50, I was highly trained and highly motivated and had good results in most meets. In recent years, my work schedule has precluded serious swim training. My last SCM swims were at the 2002 Pop Sidwell Meet in Manitoba and my last LCM swims were at USMS Nationals in Minneapolis in 1999.

Through the 1990's and up to 2002, I fared well on the national scene and made a number of top-ten times in meets. In the early 1990's I managed to achieve an All-American result.
